We have some lovely independent cafes and good pubs nearby. Here are a few of our favourites, most of these are also dog friendly. They all get pretty busy so we recommend that you get in touch with them first to book.
Cafes, Pizza, Asian, Fish & Chips:
- Whelans Café in Wivvey does great breakfasts and good café and they are very friendly (2 minutes’ drive)
- The White Post Cafe, Langford Budville, pretty garden, check out their Instagram for photos (10 minutes’ drive), lovely brunch.
- Braziers in Wellington, very good lunches, great coffee and lovely building – nice and cool in a heatwave! (15 minutes’ drive)
- The Lost Kitchen, Tiverton (pictured below), wood fired pizzas and more, near Knightshayes National Trust (25 minutes’ drive) – you need to pre book a table here, it’s very popular.
- The Driftwood Café at Blue Anchor Beach, one of our favourites! Simple unpretentious all-day breakfast, fish and chips, cream teas etc. They’re on Facebook (25 minutes’ drive), you can’t pre book, just turn up. Very close to Dunster Castle
- Ziangs at Porlock Weir – really good Asian, outside picnic tables on the harbour or takeaway, (35 minutes’ drive), you can’t pre book, opening times are on Instagram and Facebook. They do good scampi and chips for anyone who doesn’t want Asian food.
Pubs & Restaurants:
- The Bear Inn, Wiveliscombe – family friendly, very popular with the locals, inexpensive, they brew their own beer, wood fired pizzas, lots of outdoor seating, no need to pre book unless you’re a big group, (5 mins drive)
- The White Hart Inn, Wiveliscombe, this has jsut come under new management, we haven’t been in yet but keep hearing good things – more gastro pub. Open for coffee and pastries and then lunch and dinner.
- The Royal Oak Inn, Luxborough – traditional pub, we like it here and think the food is good, (20 minutes’ drive). If you want to eat inside it’s probably best to pre book. There’s a EV charger in the village too if you need one!
- The Notley Arms Inn, Monksilver – slightly more of a restaurant/gastropub (you need to pre book, 15 mins drive)
- The Bridge Inn in Dulverton serves great food and has good beer! Dulverton is a nice village about 25 minutes from here.
- Tarr Farm Inn, Exmoor (picture above) – Great location, outdoor tables, very friendly, good burgers (40 mins drive). Have a lovely walk along the river or a paddle by the ancient Tarr Steps
- Dunster has a lot of places to eat, the famous ones are the Luttrell Arms and Reeves, there are many more pubs, cafes and tea rooms.
