12 Sep Dunkery Beacon and The Stags Head Inn Dunster
If you are wondering what to do when you stay with us, you could take on Dunkery Beacon. At 519m it’s the highest point in Somerset so it makes for a nice walk up to the top and back down. We tend to park at the National Trust Car Park at Dunkery Bridge where they ask for a donation to maintain the car park. It’s a nice, well-marked path to the top and then once up there you get the most stunning views from the Cairn. Take a thermos of tea and a snack (Wivey Larder in Wiveliscombe do some lovely pastries). We went up there on Saturday with friends and could see Wales and the Bristol Channel and almost to the Severn bridges. If you fancy lunch out, then The Stags Head (stagsheadinnexmoor.co.uk) in Dunster is 20minutes or so from the car park at Dunkery Beacon. They do traditional pub meals with Otter and Exmoor Ales on tap. They are dog friendly and have a nice garden out the back looking up to Dunster Castle. Then back for an afternoon snooze in the hammock!
